A few years ago I found myself being a bit too nit picky with my husband day in and day out. I decided to start a daily journal for him. I wanted to make it simple, and not too time consuming or overwhelming. I bought a small notebook, kept it by my bedside, and started writing one positive thing about my husband each night before I went to bed. I did make it an entire year, and I gave the journal to my husband on his birthday the following year. It was a good walk down memory lane for him, but more than that, it was a year full of positive, loving comments all for him!
10 Fun Things to Buy at the Dollar Store
My tops picks for today’s post are in no particular order, and cover a range of categories. In my opinion, these are the things to buy at the Dollar Store that are definitely worth it.
Turkey Tales – A Fun Thanksgiving Tradition
At my kids’ school, we asked dads, grandpas, uncles, older brothers, basically any adult male to come into the classroom, read a story/tale to the class, and then bring a neck tie to leave with the class to pin on the turkey as the turkey’s “tale” feathers. If you don’t have a school setting to use this activity for, then use your own home! You could ask the males to bring a story and tie for Thanksgiving Day or decorate tale feathers and add to the turkey.
Toy Storage for the Living Room – and More!
My post today on toy storage for the living room or elsewhere, is a tad bit on the selfish side; I’m excited to have a chance to design a fresh toy room for my new home build!

Why Your Family NEEDS a Library Card (she: Brooke)
I have to say we enjoy our time in the library as much as we enjoy the books we check out to read at home. Next time you’re in need of a time-filler, or even a Friday night activity hit up your local library. Find a cozy corner with a stack of books and just read! Then get another stack to check out and take home with you. So many books, so little time!! Happy reading!
Valentine Tub Time for Kids – Fun For All Ages! (she: Brooke)

Witches’ Stew – A Fun Activity and Treat for Kids (she: Brooke)
This Witches’ Stew is so great because it’s an activity and yummy Halloween treat all in one (perfect for class parties!). You read the cute poem as your kids drop each ingredient into their witches’ pot. I just used a simple black and white paper treat cup, but it would be really fun to find little cauldrons (which I think I’ve see at Dollar Tree before) to mix your stew in!
Why Charity in Marriage is Essential (she: Brooke)
A few months ago, I shared a 365 Reasons to Love Your Spouse Journal here at OSSS. That was my first attempt at offering a small bit of marriage insight with you. And today, I’m going to try my hand at it again. The topic this time, charity in marriage.
For me, pure Christ-like love leaves no room for anger, jealousy, faultfinding, or resentment. Now we are all human, we’ll fall short many times, but I am here to say this charitable love is attainable as we work on it daily.

Color By Number – Summer Family Fun (she: Brooke)
Who remembers and loves color by number? Some of my earliest memories as a little girl are of me waking up WAY before my parents were wanting to, and my mom handing me the crayons and coloring books. I still remember my preschool-aged little self sitting in the dimly lit, quiet house coloring while everyone else slept. Funny how things stick with you. I’m still an early-riser, and I still LOVE to color!
S’Mores Caddy {With Printable Label} (she: Brooke)
I always want to make summer vacation a fun, memorable time for my boys, and that usually means I have to start thinking about it NOW! Not to say I sit down and plan every minute of every day during their break, but I do like to have a few things set and organized just to make the three months run a bit more smoothly, and be as enjoyable as possible. Organizing our treats in this S’Mores caddy is one little thing I can do to make my life easier.
