Kristie (a.k.a. Blushing Basics) is a lover of all things artistic, makeup just happens to be one of her favorite mediums. Working as a makeup artist she had several requests on this topic so she began posting video tutorials on how to apply make up here. Included in her blog are also tips, product reviews, and of course a little frugal fashion advice.

************
As a lover of all things beauty, I am often on the hunt for that product that provides maximum results for minimum pay. I know the saying is “you get what you pay for”, but does that have to apply to makeup as well? Of course not.
Many makeup companies provide products at different price points for different markets. In fact, did you know Maybelline is owned by L’Oreal who also owns Lancome? This means many of the products you purchase at the drugstore originated from the same companies that provide the high-end products as well.
With that in mind, let me share with you some of my Makeup Bag BFF’s. These are products I would hate to live without, that I find at a price point that is much more affordable.
1. . This little bottle packs a lot of bang for your buck. Great coverage, great color, great price, and believe me there’s a shade for everyone.

2. Rimmel SpecialEyes Eyeliner. This pencil is my go to eyeliner. Many department store brand pencils tend to run easier or rub off quicker. This product stays put, washes off easily and applies smoothly.

3. L’Oreal HIP Eyeshadows. The HIP stands for High Impact Pigment and these shadows don’t dissapoint. They are true to color and application friendly. They come in a variety of forms and I love them all.

4. Revlon ColorStay Liquid Lipstick. I use this product daily. It is a long lasting lipstick that applies easily and doesn’t dry out your lips. Perfect natural looking shades that compliment any look.

5. CoverGirl ShineBlast Lipgloss. These glosses give you the shine and staying power of a MAC Lipglass, without the price.

Thanks for the product tips, Kristie. I will be purchasing a Rimmel pencil… soon! I already own and love several colors of L’Oreal’s HIP shadows, they rock!

Good to know! On the lip gloss…it doesn’t leave the white goopy things on your lips when it wears away, does it? That bugs me! And it seems like almost all glosses do it! Advice?

What a great list! I’m always on the hunt for drugstore comparable cosmetics since I have dept store brand taste.

Brooke, i hope you enjoy your Rimmel pencil 🙂 be sure to check out Walgreens or CVS for those HIP pigments, they’re on clearance for 75% off right now.

Jocelyn, i am not exactly sure what you mean. i occasionally get goopy loose skin when wearing gloss but that is because my lips are not exfoliated. maybe try exfoliating first, then apply your face powder over your lips to dry them and prep before applying the gloss.

Kristin, thanks! I have more product reviews on my blog if you are interested.
