Hey Everyone! It’s Kimberly from Packed with Fun, the official blog for Get Away Today. If you’ve read any of my articles before, you may know that the only thing I love more than Disneyland is Halloween Time at Disneyland. Apparently I’m not alone. With the special Halloween decor, entertainment and treats at the resort all during fall break, October is becoming one of the most popular times to visit. This year is no exception, but with the Diamond Celebration going on, there’s a whole new level of excitement and some pretty major differences you’ll want to be aware of if you’re taking your family.
Halloween Time is officially kicking off this week and continues through November first. Here is what you’ll need to know if your family is going to be celebrating Halloween Time at Disneyland this year:
What’s the Same:
The Pumpkin Festival on Main Street U.S.A. will be as cheery as ever, and Dia de los Muertos is celebrated with a skeleton display in Frontierland. Haunted Mansion Holiday, Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy, and the Tower of Terror are all getting their extra spooky holiday overlays. The characters donning their Halloween costumes and the Disney villains can all be found roaming the parks. Seasonal sweets like the pumpkin beignets and jack-o-lantern caramel apples are available for purchase. Mickey’s Halloween Party is back this year as well, but this season will bring some changes.
What’s New:
This year you’re in for some extra treats with the Diamond Celebration. Dazzling decor, special 60th Anniversary food items, and of course, three all new nighttime spectaculars are awaiting your family. World of Color – Celebrate plays nightly at Disney California Adventure. Paint the Night Parade and the Disneyland Forever Fireworks will take place on nights when there is NO Mickey’s Halloween Party. You will not want to miss any of it. If you’ve been to Halloween Time before, you may notice that the Carnival at Big Thunder Mountain is missing as it will not be part of the line up for 2015. Rumor has it that that area is where the new Star Wars Land will be, although an official time line has not been announced.
On Mickey’s Halloween Party nights, Disneyland will close early and only be available for those with tickets. There are 17 party nights this year, so it’s really important that you check the calendar and make an itinerary for your dates.
All of the dates in orange are party dates. Party tickets are approximately $70/person depending on the dates and include admission to the attractions, trick-or-treating, character meet-n-greets, a special showing of Paint the Night Parade, and Halloween Screams, the exclusive Halloween fireworks show. It’s also one of the rare occasions when guests (other than small children) are able to wear costumes to the park. Disneyland Forever and Mickey’s Calvacade will NOT be playing during the Halloween Party. So, as a recap, here are when what shows will be playing what nights:
Non-party nights: Paint the Night and Disneyland Forever are playing for everyone
Party nights: Paint the Night and Halloween Screams are playing for Mickey’s Halloween Party guests ONLY
If you don’t plan on attending Mickey’s Halloween Party, you’ll definitely want to make sure you plan on watching Paint the Night and Disneyland Forever on a non-party night. I recommend getting a Fastpass for World of Color – Celebrate on a party night if you don’t have a ticket. It would also be a great time to make a reservation for Goofy’s Kitchen, Rainforest Cafe, Medieval Times, or any of the other fun area restaurants. Of course, Disney California Adventure Park will stay open later on the party nights, so it’s also an awesome time to head over the the Diamond Mad T Party and race around Cars Land.
