Hey, sweet mamas! Can you believe it’s already October? The leaves are changing, there’s a crispness in the air, and we’re all breaking out our coziest sweaters. It’s one of my favorite times of the year!
With a new month comes a new set of topics to study in our homes and at church. Each of these talks is based on the weekly “Come, Follow Me” topics, which for this month are all from the Doctrine and Covenants. They are short, easy to understand, and perfect for children of all ages to share in Primary, at home for Family Home Evening, or just as a way to start a conversation about what they’re learning in church.

October 12th: God is With Me
Scripture: Doctrine and Covenants 111–114
Talk: Have you ever felt scared or alone? Maybe it was dark in your room, or you were trying something new that seemed really hard. I have a secret to tell you: you are never, ever alone!
Heavenly Father and Jesus are always with us, even when we can’t see them. They love us so much and want to help us. The scriptures tell us that God will “order all things for your good.” That means that even when things are hard, God can help turn them into something good.
We can feel God’s love and help when we pray, read our scriptures, and listen to the Holy Ghost. When we do these things, we can feel a warm, happy feeling inside that helps us know we are not alone. So next time you feel scared or worried, remember that Heavenly Father and Jesus are right there with you, ready to help.
Talk: What is the best gift you’ve ever given someone? Maybe it was a picture you drew for your mom, or a toy you shared with a friend. It feels so good to give to others, doesn’t it?
Did you know that we can give gifts to God, too? One of the ways we can do this is by paying tithing. Tithing is when we give a little bit of the money we earn back to God. It’s a way of saying “thank you” for everything He has given us.
When we pay tithing, we are helping to build temples, churches, and do other good things all over the world. Heavenly Father has promised that when we pay our tithing, He will bless us. It’s not about how much we give, but about giving with a happy heart. I’m so grateful for the blessings of tithing!
Talk: Have you ever talked to someone on the phone who was very far away? You couldn’t see them, but you knew they were listening. That’s what it’s like when we pray to Heavenly Father.
Even though we can’t see Him, Heavenly Father is always listening to our prayers. He loves us and wants to hear from us. We can talk to Him about anything—the things that make us happy, the things that make us sad, and the things we are worried about.
In the scriptures, the prophet Joseph Smith prayed to God when he was having a very hard time. God answered his prayer and comforted him. God will do the same for us. When we pray, we can feel His love and peace. I know that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers.
