Sunday FUN Day: Family Night (she: Adelle)

Family Night is a family activity that can be held once a week. Teach your children important values and how to be better family members, people, citizens, friends, and neighbors. Once a month, I will share a Family Night lesson on the blog to help get your creativity rolling and to inspire us all to try a little harder to be a little better.

The BEST Outdoor Family Games ~ Great For Reunions, BBQs, or Parties! (she: Mariah)

One of the greatest parts of summertime are all the outdoor get-togethers! Don’t you think?? Reunions, BBQs, pool parties, camping trips, church activities, etc. are all what make summers memorable. I actually have a BBQ AND a family reunion coming up this very weekend in fact! 🙂

While planning the menu and sending out invitations are one matter, planning activities is a whole other ball game. What activities can you provide that people won’t think are totally lame and will actually participate in? What games would be fun for the kids and the adults? Well look no further! I’ve found some great outdoor family games all available through Amazon to make your next summer get-together your best yet!

The Magic of Kindness – Family Night Lesson (she: Adelle)

Cinderella’s mother taught her to always, “Have courage and be kind.” Why is kindness such a powerful attribute? Can kindness actually change a person’s fate? Cinderella transformed from a ragged servant girl to a beautiful queen. What type of results can we expect from being kind? This is the topic of today’s Family Night lesson. I can’t wait to share it with my family and I hope you can take time to discuss the magic of kindness with yours.

Don’t Eat Dad Game ~ Perfect for Family Night (she: Veronica)

This is a fun activity that you can play any time, but because Father’s Day is coming, I thought I’d put a fun spin on it. It’s a game that is typically called “Don’t Eat Pete”, and we love it. It’s a great game for ALL AGES, which is always a huge bonus. For Father’s Day we’ve changed the name to “Don’t Eat Dad”.

Family Night Fun with Dad! (she: Veronica)

Hello! It’s Veronica and I’m so happy to be here this month! Since Father’s Day is coming, I thought I’d share some ideas for Family Night with DAD! Why?! Because they are so very important, and so very awesome!! I’ve had a ton of fun ideas swimming around in my little brain, so it was hard to whittle it down. There are a lot of ideas, so just choose what would work the best for your family. I’m also sensitive to the fact that not everyone may have a father in their home, so feel free to adapt it for a grandfather or close friend. They could be your guest of honor for the night!

Family Night Idea – Love is Contagious (she: Veronica)

Even though Valentine’s Day is over, the month of love is still going strong!! I thought it would be fun to share a quick and easy Family Night about love. Of course we love our families, but sometimes it’s good to be reminded! There is great power in loving each other. When love is shown, there tends to be more patience, forgiveness comes more easily and there will always be more joy in our home. Just by loving each other. SO EASY…yet so hard sometimes. I thought it would be fun to explain how contagious it is when we choose to love. It rubs off on everyone. Even your cranky teenagers can’t escape the effects of love. So…on to our Family Night!

5 Indoor Winter Activities (she: Cami)

I live in the Rocky Mountains – the part of the Rocky Mountains that is usually snowed in from Thanksgiving to Easter. Not this year, though. We had an especially long Fall, and Spring is already on it’s way. We had one huge snowfall on Christmas day, and it’s been melting ever since. Are we the only ones with a super mild winter this year?

Part of me wants to enjoy this. The other part is wondering how we will water our crops this year. As for the rest of my family – well they are kind of bummed about all the enjoyable winter activities they missed out on this year. So while the birds chirped outside, I decided to bring winter indoors for a day, and we had a BLAST creating a winter wonderland right inside our living room. We had so much fun, I had to share these 5 indoor winter activities to enjoy, when winter doesn’t happen outside.

Year In Review Printable – Good for All Ages (she: Sharon)

Hi all! It’s Sharon back again for another fun year with ‘Or so she says…’ I’m looking forward to visiting with you all each month and sharing ideas I hope you’ll be able to put to use in your own home, family and life.

I’ve had this on-going goal of compiling a list of questions and answers from my kids around each of their birthdays so I could remember all the cute little quirks they have. Well now that I have three birthdays to remember…this never happens. So to solve my little problem, I decided that just once a year I would ask them questions, and this way I’m much more likely to remember to do it. So, starting this year, every January I’m going to fill out this year in review printable I created for each of my kids. I tried to make almost all the questions apply to most ages, it works for my 10, 4, and 1 year old twins.

52 Family Night Lessons for Every Week of the Year! (she: Mariah)

Happy New Year everyone! I hope all your resolutions are going well so far! Something that I want to be better at this year is having weekly family nights or family home evenings.

For those of you who don’t know what family home evening is, it’s basically a night where your family spends time with each other and they usually include a little lesson, an activity, and (if you’re lucky) a treat.

Have a grateful heart!! Get a full family night lesson on gratitude in today's post. www.orsoshesays.com #familynight #fhe #ldsblogger #churchofjesuschrist #familyfun

Family Night on Gratitude (she: Veronica)

Hello friends! It’s Veronica and I’m so happy to be back sharing another fun Family Night Activity. I’m always looking for fun new ideas on how to strengthen my family.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we’ve been talking a lot about gratitude. It’s very hard sometimes when I realize my children are growing up in a world of “entitlement.” I think it’s easier than ever before to be ungrateful and to not recognize all the amazing things in our lives.

Family Game – “Shoveling Snow” (she: Heather)

Happy Monday OSSS readers! Heather here with a fun “snow” game for you and your family. For about the first two years of posting on my blog, FamilyVolley.com, I always posted a family game on Fridays. Hence the name of my book, Family Fun Fridays, named after the games that I posted weekly. Hands down, one of the games that has gotten the most attention is “Shoveling Snow.” You have all the resources you need, right in your house, and it will provide laughter and bonding to help your family come closer together and make memories too!

Overcoming Challenges – Teaching Kids for Family Night

Overcoming Challenges – Teaching Kids for Family Night

Happy October! It’s Veronica and it’s so fun to be back this month with another fun Family Night idea for you. For anyone new to Family Night, we basically gather our family once a week, have a short lesson, play some sort of game and then have a treat at the end. I love it because it gives us a time The best advice I can give them for overcoming challenges in life is to be humble, teachable and always willing to adapt.that’s set aside each week for us to learn together as a family and to have fun together.

This month, I thought I’d put a fun Halloween spin on it.

Lately, we’ve had different children who have been struggling with different things. So, I wanted to do a Family Night that would help them in some way as they face these challenges. Although their challenges seem very small in some ways, to them they are huge.

Moving on to Family Night…
