I’m new and very excited to be posting on OSSS for the first time today! My name is Colette, I’m the blogger and designer behind My Computer is My Canvas… I love to design quotes, planners, subway art and I spend lots of time creating printables for my family. So, with my kids getting out of school this past week, I definitely needed a fun, new Boredom Buster/Summer Bucket List and this is what I came up with!
Why You Should Take a Last-Minute Disneyland Vacation This Summer
Would you believe that this year crowds have been at an all-time low? That’s right! So, I want to encourage you to take a last-minute Disneyland vacation this summer.

Summer Journal Fun – A Creative Way to Beat Boredom! (she: Veronica)
I have always loved writing in my journal and love going back and reading the things that I wrote as a little girl. I thought it would be fun to put together a summer journaling project that my kids could work on. I’m also a believer in creating our own personal histories. My kids are awesome, funny and creative, and I want them to be able to look back and see what they were like as kids. You don’t need to buy anything. You don’t need to keep track of a journal. You just have to print a page out when you’re ready for them to work on it and file it away when they’re done. Tah-dahhhh!! Easy!
Tips for Summer Nights at Disneyland (she: Kim)
Hey Everyone, it’s Kimberly from Packed with Fun, the official blog for Get Away Today. In my opinion, the only thing better than a summer day is a summer night. And there’s no better place for summer nights than Disneyland, especially this year during the 60th Anniversary celebration. So I’ve pulled together some tips for summer nights at Disneyland that I hope will help you have a great trip!
Turn Your Backyard into Disneyland (she: Adelle)
Hey, it’s Adelle from Packed with Fun, the official blog for Get Away Today. Once Memorial Day weekend is over, the summer officially begins and my kids start begging for some summer fun. Our family loves to go to Disneyland so much, that we decided to recreate it at home to extend some of that vacation magic. Here are six activities you can set up to turn your backyard into Disneyland. This would work at a nearby park, too, for hours of Disneyland fun:
Milk Bottle Vases – Easy and Perfect for Summer (she: Kristi)
At this very moment, I’m smack dab in the middle of what is surely one of the craziest ideas I’ve ever had, but I’m happy to be taking a much needed break today to share a quick and easy DIY project so perfect for Summer: milk bottle vases! They’re such a nice pop of color in my home.
Trampoline Water Park… A Cool Way to Beat the Heat! (she: Jamie)
Hi, it’s Jamie, stopping by from Prepared Housewives to tell you about our trampoline water park project that will make you a super-hero in your kid’s eyes 😉
It’s hot, really hot (at least in Texas)! Which means sending the kids out to play only lasts a few minutes before they need drinks, Popsicles, & Band-Aids for their boo-boos.
I would love to fill our days with outings and fun trips to Disney, but the fact is bills need paid and laundry needs done.
Luckily, my husband saved my sanity by deciding to turn our trampoline into our own personal water park. He still won’t admit he stole the idea from Pinterest, but it doesn’t matter – it has entertained our kids, the neighborhood kids, and even some adults for hours.
It’s super simple, and with just a little PVC pipe you can survive the heat and save your sanity too..
Last Day of School 2014 Printable Signs
I had a special request for some 2014 Last Day of School Printable Signs. Where have I been?!? I should have thought about this sooner! But, hopefully it’s not too late for some of you to get some use out of these.
So, what do you think?? Are you as anxious as your kids for school to be out? I know I am. I looooooove summer! It’s so nice to take some time off and play a little more. 🙂 I hope you have lots of fun things planned! I’ll give you some ideas at the end of this post.
Cheap and Easy Rainbow Yarn Flip Flops Tutorial (she: Allison)
In the summer time I wear flip flops until my heels crack. Which isn’t a good thing but I just have a hard time allowing my feet to be bound up in shoes and maybe even socks when it is almost 100 degrees outside.
Now let’s throw in the fact that I am cheap. I mean super cheap. The few pairs of flip flops I have that are beaded or have heels or whatever were gifts. I’ve never spent good money on a pair of flip flops that cost of $2. Because for one, I’m going to lose one or both or, as in one insanely odd instance, somehow lose one to only run over it with the riding lawn mower. That was fun.
Mariel’s Summer Picks 2013 ~ Gift Ideas for Women
I can only go so long without sharing my favorite things. It’s almost painful for me to hold them inside. So, please allow me some relief, while I share some of my favorite things for summer…
Okay, so first I’m a super whitey AND I don’t want to ruin my skin. So, I’m all over a nice fake tanning lotion. A nice one. Non-orange, non-splotchy, and non-stinky…a tough combo to find. But, I think I found it. I am currently in love with my new fake tanning lotion. It’s called Fake Bake Flawless. After reading the great reviews on Amazon, I had to try it (of course), and I’m pretty darn pleased. It’s a lot cheaper than the Xen Tan that I was using before, which was like $30 bucks, or something. This is about $15, if you get it from Amazon. Anyway, so I love that it’s a spray liquid…not a cream. It can be rubbed around lots quicker and the color is a brown shade. No orange here! I even got compliments on my tan legs…in May. That’s a little unusual for Utah, but I took it. It’s almost June, it could be natural!
How to Make Foam Swords & 4th of July Booth UPDATE ~
Alright, so I recently shared with you how to make marshmallow guns. The kids and I made them for their 4th of July booth. But, we also made foam swords (out of those swimming noodles). They were a big hit! From the little kids to the grown men, their were battles raging everywhere! Here’s […]
