I don’t know about you, but I’m a little emotionally allergic to cleaning. I hate it, it’s not something that is fun for me but unfortunately it’s something that has to be done. The irony is not lost on me with my blog being named Creative Home Keeper that I don’t enjoy cleaning but that’s where the creative part comes in!
There will always be tasks, responsibilities, chores and jobs we don’t enjoy doing BUT there are ways to make it more enjoyable doing. Today I want to share with you my top 4 ways to make cleaning more enjoyable.

Although digital photos have made it possible for anyone, anywhere to document their life stories through photos (which is amazing), it has also created a problem where we have SO many photos and no idea how to manage them or display them in a meaningful way. I initiated a Picture Display Movement (because sometimes I give myself authority to start my own movements) hoping to inspire others to do something with their photos. For my first post here, I get to share some of my tips to help you simplify your life. A very fitting topic as we enter a New Year and probably have ambitions of making this our best year yet. I have been thinking a lot about this topic lately, of simplifying, and have been working hard at doing just that in every area of my life. Sometimes I fail miserably. But I think I’m making baby steps towards living a simpler life.
So. Here are 9 strategies I use to simplify life. And this all comes with a disclaimer that my life is anything but simplified and easy. But I do what I can to simplify where I can so I don’t get sent to the crazy bin.
If you’re familiar with toilet bowl stains, you know what a bugger they can be to get off. Talk about STUBBORN! Lucky for me, there is this amazing thing called Facebook. Have you heard of it? (Just teasin.) You can ask your friends (readers!!) questions and they always come through. Favorite perfumes?? Answered. Cold remedies? Answered. … you get the point. Anyway, as usual my FB gals gave me the coolest tips, ones they’ve tried and loved, on how to remove toilet bowl stains. Some a little more mild than others, and some for when the big guns are needed
I love discovering new and great online shops and I just recently heard about Erin Condren. Have you heard of it? It’s where you get ‘personalized, stylized, and organized.’ I checked it out and… um, pretty much want one of everything. Note cards, address labels, announcements, wrapping paper, note pads, ect. But, they are mostly known for their awesome, customizable planners for organization. I just ordered one a couple weeks ago and have been so proud of it. It’s so CUTE and totally appeals to my girly-girl side, with customized stickers, colorful pens, organization pockets, and inspirational quotes.
I’m on the living room couch, half-sitting on some slippers. To my right is a bowl of grapes, a random hanger, a pair of shorts, and half of a throw. The other half is on the ground. In front of me, the coffee table is covered in mail (which has been there for days), a kitchen timer, a hair clip, a bottle cap, and oh yeah – – a bag of mozzarella cheese that really should be in the fridge. And that’s just the surrounding area. And I don’t even have kids yet.

Once upon a time, there was no Pinterest, or Facebook, or Internet and the only good household tips I knew were passed down from my mom or good friends. But not anymore! Now I’ve got a Pinterest board packed with cool household tips and tricks! I’ve tried many of them, and thought I’d share a few of my favorites … most are from Pinterest, but a few came to me the old fashioned way!
1. Clean Pee Stained Mattresses – This post has literally changed my life! I have three young children who manage to pee, poo and/or spew on their mattresses on the rare occasions they aren’t covered by their mattress covers. Right after the first major pee incident, I literally ran to the computer to see how we could salvage the mattress. The whole family sat around the mattress (after I applied the “magic” potion) and watched the yellow stain disappear. It is that good!
2. Get Grease Stains Out – This tip comes from one of our awesome ‘Or she she says …’ contributors, Veronica. She’s got nine kids, so she knows a thing or two about laundry. She promised me that if I rubbed Dawn (only use this brand) dish soap on the grease spot(s) and then sprayed it with my favorite stain remover that the stain would be gone, even if the item had been previously washed and dried. I have tried this trick on super old, set-in stains and it has yet to disappoint!
I recently moved into this really cool loft apartment and I’m now looking for all kinds of fun ideas on how to make my workspace prettier and organize my slightly chaotic sewing station (yes I have to admit it, there is yarn everywhere, spools of thread just leisurely laying around or crammed into their little boxes and all other essentials are probably in another box somewhere in that box chaos).
I love for my workspace to be a place of inspiration and not just a nice collection of small boxes so I came up with an easy solution for sewing station chaos and created a fun make over. It’s simple and easy, a quick DIY.
