Halloween Time at Disneyland: What’s Different for 2015 (she: Kimberly)

With the special Halloween decor, entertainment and treats at the resort all during fall break, October is becoming one of the most popular times to visit Disneyland. This year is no exception, but with the Diamond Celebration going on, there’s a whole new level of excitement and some pretty major differences you’ll want to be aware of if you’re taking your family.

Disney Inspired Apples – Tips and Tricks (she: Adelle)

Hey Everyone, it’s Adelle from Packed with Fun, the official blog for Get Away Today. We love all things Disney, and let’s face it, candied apples are one of the best things about fall. So, we combined two of our greatest loves and have put together four different types of Disney inspired apples.
Some tricks for making your own apples – freeze your apples the night before dipping them in caramel. Then, be sure to refrigerate your apples for as long as possible before dipping in chocolate. Again, we recommend overnight if possible.

Now, onto the Disney-fication of your caramel apples!

Haunted Hotels of Utah, Good for a Getaway (she: Allison)

Hotels of a certain age nearly always have a ghost story, and this is the time of year when staying in a “haunted” hotel is especially fun. I have stayed in a few “haunted” hotels because I love their historic character. However, I don’t like to be scared, so I am relieved to report that I have never had a paranormal experience in a haunted hotel.

Here are three haunted hotels of Utah that would be great choices for a romantic getaway during the Halloween season – or any time of year!

Halloween Treats with TruMoo Orange Scream

Halloween Treats with TruMoo Orange Scream

It’s Halloween time! And, with six kiddos, there is NO forgetting it. It may be their most favorite time of the year! They already have their trick-or-treating route completely mapped and they’re adding to it daily. I mean, REALLY… a large map (several pieces of paper taped together) of drawn houses, with stars by the ones they think will give the biggest treats. I may be driving around for hours! Ha, but it’s awesome to see them so excited. I’m a Halloween fan too.

Pumpkin Carving Party Ideas {With 3 FREE Printables} (she: Brooke)

Happy October to you all! It’s Brooke from Blissful Roots. This is easily my favorite time of year! And while baby boy number four will be here in a matter of weeks, I’m still trying to squeeze in any Halloween crafting, baking, and partying that I can. We have our other three boys’ birthdays this week, so we’re in full party-mode around our house. I’m just hoping this little guy waits until after the big party to make his arrival. My four-year-old was very cordial five years ago, and waited until the day after my twins’ birthday to make his entrance into the world, so I’m crossing my fingers that will happen again (at LEAST the day after all the birthdays, even a few days later would be better!).
Today I have some fun pumpkin carving party ideas, and FREE printables to share with you. My dad’s side of the family has a fun pumpkin carving party every year, and we’ve only been able to make it a few times. I wish we could make it more often because we have the best time! Since we don’t make it to the family carving parties very often, I’ve decided it’s high time to start our own little jack-o-lantern making party. Here are a few of the ideas I’ve come up with for our party:

Homemade Slime… A Great DIY Kids’ Craft (she: Carmella)

Hello there! It’s Creative Carmella here with you again to share homemade slime with you, which is a simple and fun kids’ craft!

October is here already, and that mean making lots of creepy crafts at our house. This quick kids craft is sure to get lots of oooohhhhs and ahhhhhs!

You will only need a few ingredients to make this super slippery, slime too! To make it even more interactive, I got out a bag of creepy, crawly bugs for the kids to use once the slime was done. Liam has a big fear of bugs of any kind, so I was happy to see him having fun with these. Fingers crossed he realizes that bugs are kind of fun…. well, at least we can hope that he won’t scream whenever he sees one!

Easy Halloween Craft… Mason Jar Jack-O-Lanterns (she: Maria)

Hello Everyone! This is Maria from Shopgirl again, and I’m excited to share a super easy and fun fall craft idea with you today! It’s hard to believe that it’s October already, and that the holiday season is just around the corner! These mason jar jack-o-lanterns would be a fun craft to do with kids, and they would also make for great little Halloween party favor containers if you filled them with candy (and not with a lit candle, obviously!) You can make the design as simple or as intricate as you like, and you can use clear or colored mason jars. Just a couple of minutes and a few craft supplies and you have a fun little fall decoration to put on your window sill or to give away! Read on to see how to make these…

Halloween at Southern California Theme Parks (she: Kimberly)

Hey everyone, it’s Kimberly from PackedwithFun.com, the official blog for Get Away Today. We specialize in Southern California vacations and I love sharing insider travel tips and tricks here on “Or So She Says.” The Southern California theme parks are always fun, but one of my favorite times to visit is during the Halloween season. Now, just to be clear, I love Halloween, but I don’t do scary. I know there are a lot of people that love to be scared to death, and if that’s what you’re looking for, Southern California is the place for you, too. Each September – October, the major theme parks celebrate the holiday and the events range from G-rated fun for the whole family (my personal cup of tea) to good luck going to sleep at night for the next month or so. Since October is a really popular travel month due to U.E.A. and other fall breaks, I wanted to share a brief overview of what you can expect during Halloween at Southern California Theme Parks:

Grapevine Wire Pumpkins (she: Jessica)

Grapevine Wire Pumpkins (she: Jessica)

Browsing around the floral section of the craft store, I came across some rustic grapevine floral wire. I used it to make some cute wire pumpkins for the house. They would look so great in a fall tablescape or mantle! I actually used this same technique to make these pipe cleaner and pony bead pumpkins with my kids. They look especially cute grouped with some burlap pumpkins that I made.

Come check them out… they’re simple, cute, and are perfect for both Halloween and Thanksgiving!
