Nontraditional Valentine Ideas – Becoming a Veritable Valentine Virtuoso (he: Dan)

I am the Forrest Gump of Valentine’s Day. Well actually, the only thing Forrest and I share in that regard is that we are both not very smart men, but we know what love is… and I guess that you could say that past Valentine’s Days for my wife were like Forrest’s proverbial box of chocolates. She just never knew what she was gonna get…if anything. On Valentine’s Days of yesteryear I think I occasionally handed my wife an empty box of chocolates, figuratively speaking, on the international day of love.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Crispy Rice Treats (she: Liz)

My daughter always wants to help me in the kitchen. Many times I am in a rush and don’t take the time for a little helper. As parents we can get so wrapped up in our busy schedule and the responsibilities of life and parenthood, that we may forget the importance of time with our kids. So we headed into the kitchen to make these chocolate covered strawberry crispy rice treats.

garage door heart attack

Garage Door Heart Attack (she: Brooke)

I heard about a garage door heart attack many years ago from Alisa Bangerter on Studio 5 (a local lifestyle show here in Utah). She had a whole list of fun valentine activities for the family. This particular activity really caught my attention because it was like nothing I’d ever tried before. I had done a heart attack on a front door and bedroom door before, but never hanging from a garage door. I did it for my husband that Valentine’s Day, and it was a big success! This is the perfect activity to do for husbands/dads on Valentine’s Day because they’re usually the ones coming home at the end of the day, and opening the garage. And when they do, they’re greeted with a cheery assortment of dangling hearts with love messages on them. So fun!!

Date Your Spouse – Conversation Prompts For Your Next Date (she: Heather)

Remember when you first met and went on dates with your spouse? When you could talk for hours about hopes and dreams and nonsense?

Do you ever go out with your spouse and find that all you talk about now are your kids? Or your family problems and worries? Or maybe you struggle to find something to talk about at all?

Kids and stresses and struggles are important to talk about, but not on our dates. Dates are hard to come by in the first place. They should not be laden with worries. They should be filled with laughter, love, and lots and LOTS of hand holding.

I know what you’re thinking, “If we can’t talk about kids, and struggles, what do we talk about then?”

Here is a list of things you can talk about when you date your spouse. Whether you use them during your Valentine date, or any other date you go on with your spouse. Whether you stay in, or go out, whether it’s in February or any other month of the year, print the list, take it with you and you’ll have plenty to talk about.

Printable Valentine Tag… Stuck-On-You! (she: Anne)

Hi OSSS readers! Anne here, back with a printable Valentine tag for ya.

I think that I am with almost all other crafters out there when I scream, from the mountain tops, how much I love the Target Dollar Spot. I mean, can you ever make it 20 yards in before getting sucked in, regardless of what you went in there for in the first place? They always have such cute, seasonal things to create with. A couple of weeks ago I was in there, and how on Earth I was even thinking about Valentine’s Day ideas at that moment is beyond me. But I saw all of those cute post-it notes and the mini pens, and it just happened.
Ok. So how easy is this little Valentine? A post-it pad. A mini gel pen. Some bakers twine. And this sweet and simple Valentine’s Day tag you can download.

‘You’re So Kool’ Valentine Printable

I needed something cheap and easy for my little girl’s Kindergarten class, as far as Valentines go. So, I went roaming up and down the grocery store aisles, trying to think of something kids love. And, then I saw it. An entire bin filled with those nasty Kool-Aid drinks, that my kids are always begging for. They were in a six pack for just $1.25. That worked for me! Now, to just come up with a Valentine to go with them…I think I got it! Isabelle was so excited to bring them to her class and was hoping she would have a few left over, that she could guzzle later.
